Unique in Europe
The idea of an archive for Swiss interior architecture was already discussed in the 1950s within the Board of the then newly founded Vereinigung Schweizer Innenarchitekten / Architektinnen VSI.ASAI. (Swiss Association of Interior Architects). Yet it took another 70 years before the urgency of the matter prompted various people to act: several pioneers and former interior architecture lecturers wanted, due to their age, to place their work in trustworthy hands so that it would be preserved for future generations and made accessible to research.
Founding an archive for Swiss interior architecture is pioneering work, since there is no institution anywhere in Europe dedicated exclusively to this profession. Our goal is to archive the work of outstanding Swiss interior architects of the 20th and 21st centuries from all regions of Switzerland, in the form of Vorlässe (collections donated during the creator’s lifetime) and Nachlässe (estate collections transferred after death), in order to preserve, research, and communicate their body of work, consisting of prototypes, models, documents, photographs, etc.
